There's an interesting part of photoshop or of photoshop cs3 (which i'm using). one can easily give an image a sepia or black/white tone. one don't 've to desaturate the image or make adjustments with color levels. just one touch n the image will become a sepia or b/w photo.
to give it a b/w mode go on clicking image> adjustment layers> black n white. there one will find hue/ sturation, brightness/ contrast, shadow/ highlight options. after converting d image to b/w mode d contrast, hues can b adjusted accordingly :-)
n to convert an image to sepia jst go to windows on the toolbar. then click on styles. one'll find a style box at right side of the page. just click on sepia. after that contrast etc. can b adjusted ;-)

I agree with Simon that, whilst Paintshop Pro is good, Photoshop is the better of the 2 programs. Photoshop has a LOT more utilities, functions and plugins available. This URL is great if you are a complete "newbie" to Photoshop...

or if you are a little more advanced, you can try...

Paintshop pro is good and very easy to use but photoshop is the better of the two, it just takes a while to learn it... you might find this useful http://revision3.com/pixelperfect/episodes

If you are an amateur, or even a seasoned pro, Photoshop, in any of its many releases, is an awesome tool to use. I run Photoshop 6 on my laptop computer, and Photoshop CS2 on my high-spec desktop pc.

To Start...
Open Photoshop, and load your image. Once your photo is loaded, press the "Image"tab at the top,
Then open the "Adjustments" sub-menu from here.
From the "Adjustments sub-menu,
choose "Auto Levels" ~ this will make your photo crisper and cleaner.
Next choose Colour Balance ~ this allows for a lot of experimenting.
The last one for today is Brightness/Contrast ~ again for making your photo crisper and cleaner.
There are still many, many more tweaks that we will get into on our travels through Photoshop, but just experiment and remember ~ Have fun. If you are going to save any of the work you do tou your image, REMEMBER to save it with a DIFFERENT file name!!!
See you next time...

"I'm not sure if I can help, but I used the 'image' button.  It is the second from the left in the Rely Toolbar.  There you have an option of taking the photo off your computer or from a URL. Good Luck Bill"
