I wanted to have your opinions from experience to compare
NIK Software
Topaz Software
on One Software
All seem to be similar. Do you use a particular one and why? Or do you use more than one of them?

Permalink Reply by Robert Benson on November 10, 2011 at 3:30pm I have used all of them. NIK is the best one IMO. I just downloaded onOne suite 6 yesterday and it is sloooowwwwwwwww! I wanted to try out the portrait software but I can probably do it manually faster than the software can do it.
Topaz has some good plugins like like ADJUST and CLEAN. Most everything else can be done manually, which is the way I prefer to work.
Pretty much all the masking software is a waste of time. On some images with completely homogeneous backgrounds or a ton of contrast you can use Vertus Fluid Mask with some success. The other's are fairly difficult and time consuming and I can do better like I said, manually.
For the most part, plugin's are supposed to be a time saver but everything they do, you can do if you know how. A good working knowledge of the processes behind what they do and how to do them will take you farther and possibly faster.
I normally take my images with the post processing in mind before production so that I know what to expect and can quickly and easily manage without plugins as well. Obviously, this isn't always possible but a little pre planning goes a long way.
Permalink Reply by Greg Johnston on November 10, 2011 at 5:55pm Thanks for asking that question John as I have been wondering the same thing for some time. The folks I have spoken to have only used these add ons with PS and not with Lightroom. Robert, do you use NIK with Lightroom? What are the limitations in the add ons when using it with LR compared to PS?
I have been leaning towards NIK but knowing its value with LR would be helpful.
