I am going to a Heart concert Aug. 14 at the Sedalia state fair. I was wanting some ideas that would help me take some GREAT pictures. I will be sitting on the 11th row & i am using a Nikon Coolpix P80 camera. I am new to this camera. I haven't really got to use it much on concerts or bands. I am wanting to know what kind of sitting i could use to help me with GREAT pictures. Please help me with any ideas. I went to a Sheryl Crow concert last week & i was pretty far back & i had to use the zoom pretty far. They look ok but i want BETTER. So if you have any ideas HELP....THANKS
The P80 is a very capable camera so I think you'll get some great shots. A couple of things to think about is the image size you're looking for. If you use the largest, best resolution, the camera takes longer to capture and process the image. This is what causes point and shoot type cameras to miss shots or blur. If you're not planning on printing above an 8X10, lower the size to 2048 x 1536(3M) or 1600 x 1200(2M) size. This will allow faster shots. Also, if it is fairly dark, this will allow the 3200 or 6400 ISO speeds, again allowing for faster captures.
Another factor to consider is how much you zoom. The tighter you zoom in, the less light the camera is able to collect. Additionally, any motion or shake of the camera will be amplified and cause blurring.
This may seem like a lot to think of, but actually it's camera settings before you go and then you can just shoot and enjoy the concert..
