Thanks for the post jadeast. Not seen very often but heard all over the east and Texas. Believe it or not, there was one in east Texas where I hunted who had developed a curved beak that he used to flip bark from pines. I watched him for two years and I always found him in the same area each time I went there. He was in the north (80,000 acres) of the Davy Crockett Natl. Forest. We do have many here in Maine.
Ooooh I am jealous. A sunroom window AND great birds to look at! I am traveling to the Mississippi this weekend with a group from our local Audubon chapter. I only have a zoom 300mm - (wish list longer zoom and/or scope). Hope to get some good shots. Supposed to get up in the 50's and partly sunny. We still have snow in yards and fields here in Northern Illinois. But the robins and red-winged blackbirds are back and there should be a good amount of migrating birds to see on the Mississippi.
Does anyone have a special set up in their yards for bird photography?
Diane, Something else I did was cut out heavy cardboard to fit into a window slide. Then, I cut a hole in the center and used an empty toilet tissue roll and used duct tape to tape it to the card board. With the feeders just outside, I could place my camera up to the tissue roll and I could move side to side and up down. Got some pretty neat pics that way. As the old saying goes, "do whatever it takes." OR "Where theres a will theres a way." (.-)
Hey this is interesting. We have feeders right outside the kitchen window. I will try this next week or so . . . but I'll have to sit on the countertop or in the sink for the shots! We have a good variety of migrating birds right now . . . but I am in finals week . . . maybe I could try it on the bathroom window . . . at least I could just stand in the bathtub!
Great start you all. Mike and Michael have some great shots on their sites as does Trish. All I see out my window is this dadgum snow. For the first time in my life I wish it gone. I did see some ravens today.
Hang in there Elmer our snow is slowly going away to slow for me, but I did see two robins the other day that and the geese in my part of the country is a sure sign that warmer weather isn't far away.
Great photo Jeff. Glad your getting out. Its still a little early for a good many birds. There are some robins, wrens, chickadees, and ducks and geese. Probably wont see many until June.
