Hello, my name is Mirenchu and I'm new in the group. I live in south Florida and I have the chance to go to the Everglades where, mostly in winter, I can find beautiful birds like this one. I would like your opinion to improve in my skills, thanks in advance.

Great shot -- have you ever been to the nesting area in the Everglades when you go south out of Naples into Everglades Park? I was there last year in April and its was covered with nesting birds and the little boats got fairly close for pictures.
Linda, I'll be in Indiana next week. I live in sw florida and plan to go to the everglades to find mamma birds feeding their babies for photos. do u take a boat and hope for the best? I didn't know if they had board walks from which u could see the birds, also. I have a 100 to 400 and thot I'd get an 1.4 extender for it. i also have a 200 to 500 for good measure. what did u use? what kind of shots did u get? frankly, I've not even been to the everglades. I will be going places I've never thot of going to get images, I think. corkscrew has lots of wood storks nesting in winter, I hear. they say. i'm having a hard time getting information as the photographers I meet here take photos of bees and flowers and buildings and not herons and egrets and cranes. how was ur trip on the boat? did u get close enough for ur long lens to get images u liked? sorry about all the questions. sandra
Sandra, where in Indiana are you going to be and for how long. I live just outside of Indianapolis (west side), maybe we can meet up for a little local flavor photography. You can email me at fschendel@yahoo.com.
great! I'll be just north of I 465 so it's not far from west side. I'll email u now. my email is : paints2009@yahoo.com and I use the name of our national champion horse, poco, so don't delete me....:) pkl. that'd be fun to meet up.
Ur wood stork has great detail in the feathers and the head, and great bokeh. very nice. I live in sw florida an hour from the everglades, altho I ve not been there yet. I hear there are lots of birds nesting in the winter and not many now. I can't find anyone to ask about where and when to shoot. I have some birds nests now of egrets and herons and their babies have almost all fledged. I got some good shots and a few are crisp. I tried to load some tonight but don't think they loaded. they may have been in raw. learning how to edit is the hardest and I use the program that canon provided. i got a 50 D a couple of months ago and am learning how to use it. I get so excitied about the opportunity to get a mamma feeding a big baby, that I forget to hold my camera still. I have a fence to rest it on part of the time, but the 100 to 400 and the 200 to 500 is heavy. I just shoot and get some interesting images when I get home and see them. like the egret with his tongue out in my photo profile. just lucky on that one. I never know. u must live on the east coast, hence south florida. I love these big birds. ur photos are wonderful. where did u find the flamingos and the wood stork? i've seen a few wood storks here some years. they don't come every year, I hear. depends on the water levels or something. thaks for the gorgeous photos.
I luv ur signature on ur image. it is unobtrusive and part of the photo image. very nice.
Thank you very much for all your comments! I live close to Miami and this particular photo was taken at Shark Valley. I like to go too to Anhinga Trail, both at the Everglades and to Wakidahatchee Wetlands at Delray Beach. But the best place to get the most amazing photos (the birds are so close) is at the Alligator Farm in Saint Augustine!
I just can't wait for the Winter to come to start taking photos of birds again!
great! tks. I'll plan to visit the alligator farm this winter. it's maybe only 3 hrs from me .....can't wait. I'll go there first. corkscrew swamp may have lots of nesting wood storks in the winter, they tell me. they have a board walk.
I saw a whooping crane at babcok ranch, but the bus I was on didn't stop. saw a green back heron too but it was on the other side of the bus so missed that shot. hahahaha......this was in july. alligator farm , here I come. is it like a zoo kinda thing? r there places with no fences to shoot thru?
have u driven thru lion country safari? r there any good shots there? I was there 30 years ago. I think they only had lions then.
