"Hi Guys!
Anyone using the Tokina 12-24 on a 40D body? Would appreciate some feedback (good or bad!) re the image quality you get, and if there are any auto-focus issues with this lens.
Many thanks,
Jeff"
In answer to above, I use the 12-24mm Tokina f/4 on my 40D camera as well as my 10D, my 30D and my D60 which I have converted to full-time infra red photography. I can use this lens on the D60 and 10D cameras because it IS NOT an EFS lens, although it was designed for 1.6x cameras.
BTW: It appears that this lens can also be used on full frame cameras from about 16-17mm or longer. I have no personal experience using the lens this way.
I love the 12-24mm Tokina f/4 Pro DX lens on any of my cameras. It provides excellent IQ and it is built like a tank. The lens is really a good buy right now at Adorama for $400 with free shipping.
Some users report that they have encountered flare problems using this lens but, I have not experienced such problems to any significant degree. There may, however, be some credence to the flare reports because Tokina has brought out a new model 12-24mm f/4 Pro DX II lens which is SUPPOSED to reduce or eliminate the flare problems which some photographers have experienced. This lens runs $500 from Adorama and is the price that most of us have paid for the original version of this lens.
Tokina has introduced an 11-16mm f/2.8 lens which is based on the 12-24mm Pro DX (II). If you need the f/2.8 aperture and are comfortable with the 11-16mm range, this should be a great choice. I have no experience with the 11-16mm lens but, based on my experience with the 12-24mm; I would have no reservations about purchasing it. The 11-16mm Tokina f/2.8 runs $600 from Adorama.
So you have three lenses from Tokina selling at Adorama for $400; $500 and $600. I would expect than one of these lenses would work for you.
