Hope I am not making a mistake here. I have been flopping on my walk around lenes.I have the 28 to 105 USM II. I like the lens but I thought maybe the 28 to 135 IS would be better suited. A little longer reach and the IS is nice I bought the lens and I hated it. So I sold it.
I have the 28 to 105 on ebay for sale and I have the Tammy on its way. I like the idea of the 2.8 speed. After doing a car show, I realized I need the extra light that the 2.8 offers
Any thought on this lens ?
Scorpio... If you are talking about the Tamron AF 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di Zoom, I have not seen it, but have read some on it. I have read reviews where they would state "Pros" & "Cons". Most of the Pros were the price & Sharpness, even at f/2.8, but the cons were things like Tamron's warrenty, cheap material, Loud AF, AF inconsistency & Slow in focusing for sports to name a few. You may want to go to a dealer and take your camera with you. See if they will let you mess with it in the store on your equipment.
Scorpio.. At the top of the group section there are some links about various Canon equipment. On the site called The-Digital-Picture.com they have a review on your lens in question. It actually has nicer things to say then other reviews I have seen. You may want to check it out.
I got the Tammy lens. So far so good. I like the size. It is bigger than my 28 to 105 and smaller than my old 28 to 135 IS.
This could be the walk around lens I am hoping for. I had a chance to take a few shot but it was almost dark and the subjects were not great. Hopefully I can get out and do some shooting this weekend :)
I own the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and the Canon L 24-70 f/2.8. Both are very sharp, even wide open, and auto-focus well in my experience (I do a lot of low light shooting). The Tamron is smaller and lighter, which is a pro IMO, and the Canon seems more robust. I think Tamron's warranty is 6 years, compared to Canon 1 year and Sigma 3 years. The Tamron costs less than 1/3rd the price of the Canon L. The Canon flares more easily. I do find the extra bit of wide angle nice, but the next time I need a back-up lens with these specs I'll be going with the Tamron. Even if it's not as sturdy as the Canon I can buy 3 of them for the same price (one after the other that's 18 years of warranty).
