I dont know how many of you have the Rebel XTi but mine has a serious issue right now. I got my XTi mid feb of this year and its taken about 2000 photos. on april 18th it just shut off and wont come back on. Ive tried to change the lens, memory card, and the battery but it still wont turn on. am I missing something here? Is there a reset button on it? Only thing I havent changed is the little lithium battery inside it. Ive already downloaded the form to send it back to canon but Im having trouble finding my reciept and I didnt fill out my warranty card. I purchased it from circuit city but they only have a 14day exchange policy so Im stuck with sending my new baby to VA. grrrr...anyone else have(or know of) any issues with the XTI? I have the XT (my first dslr) and have had it for 3 years without any problems.

Well.. when I went to Google to look up this issue, I found your question out there. :) I would have to agree about an electrical problem. If you have a decent camera store near by you may want to take it there. You may also send Canon the same question and see what they say. I know.. I know.. not a lot of help, just all I can think of right now.

Sorry,
Earl
I wish I had any camera repair shop close but I dont. So I guess its all the way back to canon for my baby...I miss it already. the XT just doesnt have as good quality as the XTI. hmm.gonna contact canon and see what they say. thanks earl
Cher, Before you send it in, change the quarter sized battery inside. That battery is an CR2016 and is 3 volts. Its kind of like the internal battery in a computer. Its a cheep fix if you try it. They run around 3 to 5 dollars.
I did that lastnight. only thing that battery does is holds the time and date info...I guess Ill have to send my baby..right after I call canon. Im really not happy about this. I have weddings and portraits comming up fast and I dont like being without my 2nd camera. maybe I shouldve listened to my husband and gotten a nikon!
Cher, I had what I thought was a problem with my XTI. I called their service department and talked me through a couple of things and fixed it over the phone. You probably done that already but maybe not. So.......
no i havent called them but since Ive changed everything i can change to fix it myself Im just going to send it off tomorrow. Ive already told thier computer what was wrong and it suggested that I have it serviced by them. It clamis I should have my camera 7 days after they recieve it. Ill keep yall posted on how the service was and maybe what was wrong (if they share that with me). Its under warranty still so there shouldnt be an issue there.
oh..Ill be tracking it every step of the way! Im even going to make UPS box and secure it that way IF something happens to it they cant say it wasnt packed properly and not pay me the insurance coverage.

so how does one update bios and firmware? Ive seen it mentioned before but i "assumed" ( i know) since it was a new camera it wouldnt need updating.
Cher,

So what was or is the end result for your XTi?
have you tried cleaning the leads and terminals on the battery and inside camera.(carefully inside the camera)
i have the Xti and haven't had that issue thankfully.. wow.. u posted this in april, did u ever get it figured out/fixed?
