Err 01 Camera lens and body not communicating

yes, I've seen this error, one of my students had a lens which was dropped and he had the same error. the fault is in the lens, if the lens is an expensive one send it to canon to fix it, otherwise I am not sure it's worth it  (was it the 18-55mm lens? they usually deliver this lens with most of the bodies as a bundle lens)

17-85mm but it is what came with the camera bundle.  Thanks for your reply.  It is not the reply I was hoping for but I appreciate it anyway.  Luckily I live close to Irvine California where Canon USA is located so I can walk the lens in.  I was hoping for a quick fix.  I think you are right and maybe I will try and get an upgrade lens.

you are welcome and sorry for the bad news :( if the lens is still in the warranty period they should fix it for free unless you dropped it, knocked it, etc.

Not under warranty but I do not remember dropping or banging it.  Who knows when you are hiking around what happens sometimes.  Thanks anyway.  You don't do photography course on line do you?  I looked at your site very nice.  I would like to find someone that can help with my photography.  I feel like I am that golfer that is ok but I need to get to the next level and i don't know if it is my post processing, My compositions, my lens, my time of day taking the pic.  or maybe a combination of all of them.

not yet but I am thinking to start soon, I am very busy with my face to face students in London as my courses get very popular; time is my biggest enemy. If you wish we can try, please make contact via e-mail and we can have a chat over the phone as well next week? can you please send me some of your best images to have a look at them (including the exif data - small res about 1500 pixels on the widest side); you don't have any images in your portfolio.

I run into this problem on rare occassions while shooting.  For reasons unclear the lens and camera stop communicating and I get an error message.  (99 I think).  Regardless I have found if you take out the battery from the camera and then reinstall after a 15 second wait things return to normal.

Sorry a little late on the reply but I have been out.  Thank you for your suggestion.  I have done that.  I have also recharged the battery and changed batteries. It still does not work.  I appreciate your time and thoughts that you gave me about your experiences.

 Hello, I'm having this issue right now with my 50mm. 1.4.  Second time...

The first time, it was under warranty and Canon repaired it... reduced my warranty to 6 months. More than 6 months later... I'm getting it again. Same lens...

I guess I'm just short my 50 prime lens now...
