I've been shooting with an old Sony DSC F717 for years and I thought it was time to update, so I bit the bullet and purchased a Canon 40D with a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Autofocus Lens. I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who has this camera and/or lens, I should have my camera this upcoming Thursday. Thanks in advance!

Brian.

The 40D is a great camera. Ive shot over 20K images with it. To get the most out of it shoot in RAW and not jpeg. Use DPP that comes with the camera or Adobe Camera Raw. Either works great. You will find you will have much more latitude to adjust the image in RAW. Even though Ive had my 5D2 for 7 months now, I still use the 40D for sports and time lapse. It is a great camera.

I too love my 40D. I have the 10-22 but usually only break it out for interior shots, never used it for much else really. I have taken a few super wide shots of landscapes that were interesting but that isn't the 10-22's strong suit. The 10-22 isn't a good people lens, too much fisheye.

I love the 40D with the Canon 24-70 2.8, probably my fav all around combo. Also love the slower 24-105 IS if light permits. The 70-200 and 100-400 L's are amazing also. The newer 18-200 3.5 is a good vacation lens with the 40D since it's an EF-S, especially if you need to pack light.

I will skip the 50D and hold out for the 5D MII when cash permits. The 50D is fine but doesn't offer enough for me to make the jump.
a 40d is cool you need to get a better flash the canon 430 or 530 is the best go to new egg .com cheep price look for bag kit's need more help play around with it before you need jpeg it before going to raw a simple lens to start with 50 mm

Liked the 40D better than the 30D-found it more responsive in AF and metering...also a bit more colorful. 10.2 mp's also helps, You know the old addage... I bought the 40D a couple of weeks before the 50D was announced...15.1 mp's-I knew I should have waited...Oh well such is life. They will always bring out somehing better than what you have bought, right after you bought it. I thiink that's a Murphy's law or something. Needless to say, I decided to get a 50D body, anyhow. So the 40D stays home a good deal of the times. Using it as a back up body, and as a second camera with a 10-22 wide angle zoom attached. D
