Hi All canon users. I recently bought a canon 1100D. I was doing hands on with it and recently found a set of filters on ebay . Just want to confirm from you all that is the the set worthless. I am feeling guilty as I have already bought them and found this informational wall later on.
Kindly take out some precious time and advise how can I use this set of filters.
The ebay link for the same is

Filters don't fit bodies, they fit lenses, generally the front element but some big lenses take filters near the lens mount. Anyway, I think the only lens I have with a 58 mm thread is the CANON EF-S 18-55MM 3.5-5.6 IS LENS, earlier versions were without stabilization and version II has stabilization. If you have some version of that lens, you will be able to try out the filters and decide for yourself if any of them are any good, or not. If you use other lenses, then probably the filter thread will be a different diameter and the filters will not fit.
HI I also have a Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens f/3.5-5.6. Seems that the filter should fit in. I havent yet recieved the filters.
Shadab...
There are several things to consider:
1. Will the filters physically fit your lens? The filters will fit the Canon 18-55mm kit llens which takes a 58mm filter and will fit the Canon 55-250mm lens and any other lens which has a 58mm thread at the front...
2. Do you need this collection of filters? Probably not at all. Most of what these filters will do can be achieved in post processing with virtually any photo editing program. IMO, there are only a few filters which are beneficial to digital photography:
a. Circular polarizer
b. Neutral density
c. Graduated neutral density
d. UV or clear filter for protection
However, since you now own the filters, there is nothing to prevent you from playing with them to see if you like the effects....
3. Are the filters decent quality? Very likely they are not! Most filters in kits like this are not decent quality and I would not advise anyone to purchase filters in sets like this. If possible, I would recommend that you return this purchase and get your money back. If you cannot return the set, test the filters, especially the four I mentioned above against images shot without filters. If the filters do not degrade the image, then you are in luck. However, if the images are degraded, you will need to make a decision as to whether to keep them or not.
Permalink Reply by Vicki Brazil on March 24, 2012 at 7:58pm I wish i had read this post this morning. I ordered a set of filters from Amazon. I couldnt make up my mind if I really needed to do this. Guess i just wasted some money.
Permalink Reply by Deborah Flowers on December 17, 2011 at 7:12pm I have to agree w/Richard... most likely you will not need this collection of filters... there are a limited number of filters needed and most of these are not them... I advise returning this... you paid $1400 dollars for these???? I don't even own photoshop and I don't need these filters... A good { Heliopan }circular polarizer, some ND's depending on what you shoot......very occasionally I use a star filter... but again.... all these are the same size 58mm. many lenses are different size fronts...and they are most likely not of high quality... who makes them?
Best to you in getting a refund... ebay says you have 14 days to return... I'd do it.
Permalink Reply by Shawn Fennell on January 22, 2012 at 1:32pm FYI, he didn't spend $1400. I think it's rupees, which would equate to about $27 I think.
In the end, as long as they fit your lens, no harm in playing around with them and seeing if you actually can make use of them.
I suspect you will find that you don't use them often, if at all, though.

It is advisable to buy filter when you are buying your len at the same. The filter can offer immediate protection to your len from scratch and UV. at the same time you are able to get the correct size of the filter that match your len. Unless you know the size of the filter you need , try not to buy from web site. You may end up getting the wrong size.
