Picture Style How-To (in intelligible language)?

Hi everybody,

I am looking for creating some Picture Styles of my own, but the official manual is not very clear to me -please be lenient, I am just a beginner :p

Is anybody aware of some easy tutorials over the internet where I can learn how to use the program so that I don't end up with an alien-green skin tone?
