Hi Oisin. The other option is to wait for the 7D MK II which is possibly coming out this fall. It sounds like a major upgrade.

Thanks Gordon, had decided to not to get the 700d but get the 7d instead. Will now wait to see what the 70d is like as I have read that it could also be a replacement for the 7d as well as the 60d.

Personally I would wait until the 70D comes out, and see what it has to offer. It is a bit higher level camera, and according to the rumor mill, 6.5fps, Wifi, GPS, 3.2? Touchscreen LCD, Magnesium Alloy Construction, Weathersealed, and will be announced soon. The  Wifi would be a real bonus to allow you to control with smartphone, and the faster fps is needed for sports/wildlife.I have a 60D and love it.

Thinking about buying Canon EOS 700d.

Look at KEH.com for used lenses.  I have dealt with them for many years and they have always been first class.  Best to save a little money and get the best glass you can afford.  Glass makes or breaks the picture.  An intermediate lens that I used for several years is the Canon 28-135mm.  Not an "L" series lens, but very sharp and a good walk around lens.   Sigma also has good lenses with a Canon mount.  Just research the reviews on various lenses before you buy.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS with a kit lens. I want to get a telephoto/zoom lens. money is definitely tight so can anyone help me as to where to get it and what lens is best? this will be my first one. I take tons of wildlife, animals,pets and landscapes, but am Increasingly frustrated by far away shots of birds etc.... I cant get. I want sharpness and clarity the most.

any help is greatly appreciated as I am just learning! , I no longer want to HAVE to crop for a photo. I was told Sigma lenses may work?
