This little forum stays just a little too quiet. I know there are lots of D5000 owners out there... so chime in.
Now that this camera has been out for a while, and we have had time to love/hate the quirks of this little camera, lets get a survey of how we feel. Write in some of your most and least favorite features of the camera. If you found a solution to any particular problem, share that as well.
For Me: My favorite feature of the camera is it's compatibility with just about ANY nikon lens ever made. Sure, you don't get metering and autofocusing, but you can get a phenomenal deal on fast prime lenses (180mm F/2.8, $23.... 400mm Tokina-made vivitar, F/6.3 but mighty sharp..$60).
Next favorite feature: Live View. Fantasttic aid for getting the focus perfect. When I have time to compose the shot, I can magnify the live view image and tweak to focus to near perfection. This applies not only to the old manual focus lenses, but also to newer autofocus lenses (which don't always focus as well as you'd like).
Third favorite feature: Awesome low light capture. Noise levels are pretty good up to ISO 800, still reasonable at 1600.
Least favorite features: Having to dig through the menu system for most of the settings. Sure, you can set the programable function button to suit ONE of your commonly accessed functions, but I often get delayed changing the white balance or flash settings.
Would have liked a better viewfinder as well.
Built in motor would have been nice... but you get what you pay for (next time: D300!)
Does anyone even use the scene modes?
