I am ordering my D300 on the 16th, but I need some help. I am offered a 2 lens kit with one 18-55mmG ED AF-S VR and one 55-200 ED AF-S VR lense...or I can get the kit that has the 18-200 mm G ED AF-S VRII lens for 300 more....
Any advise or comments would be greatly appreciated
I now have the 18-200 and I'm not sure how I lived without it in a lot of situations. I also have an 18 70 I use a lot but I would jump at an opportunity for the 18-200. I wish I had bought both at the same time.

I have the 55-200 VR and it's a great lens for the price. I would pass on the 18-55. And since the 18-200 covers that whole range, i would go with that or ask if you can get the 55-200VR and maybe sub out the other one and apply it's price to a faster lens for that same focal range. The Tamron comes to mind. It's a great lens and about 1/3 the price of its Nikon/Nikkor equivalent. Or maybe they'll let you get the 50mm f/1.8 prime, which is a FINE lens and only costs about $110. Ask if you can get that instead of the 18-55 IF you are going the route of getting the 55-20VR with it and asking if you can do that. Otherwise I guess go for the 18-200. But i'd rather have a prime and the 55-200 and maybe spend that other $300 on the Tamron 17-55 f/2.8.
Hope that didn't sound too confusing.
I am getting my D300 tomorrow and cannot wait!
