Comment by Ray Rodriguez yesterday I also like to know what would be a good wide angle lens for the Nikon D7000.
Comment by Ray Rodriguez yesterday Hello everyone, just joined the group. I have finally purchased a Nikon D7000 and I'm still learning certain functions on it. I sold my Nikon D5100 for a good amount of money so that I could get this. I would like to know how do I avoid my on camera flash from going off in commander mode with my external Nikon SB-700 ?
Comment by David M Dombach on March 23, 2012 at 12:29pm OK, Looks like I forgot a "0" on 2 of my D7000 below…..
Comment by David M Dombach on March 23, 2012 at 12:28pm Greetings D700 users. I just joined the group today. I was just reading about the sensor cleaning from back in November. I was fortunate enough to attend a sensor cleaning class at my local photography Meet Up last year & now I can clean my own sensor. It's not as hard as it seems. I would look into finding someone to instruct you in how to clean your sensor.
I would like to also recommend a great book to use as a guide in learning more on the D7000. The book is From Snapshots to Great Shots by John Batdorff. He impresses that his book is only a companion book to the owners manual. I have found it a very good tool in learning how to use the camera. The ISBN is 978-0-321-76654-0. I bout mine when it was first published for $24.99; you can find one now for about $16.00-$20.00.
I've had my D700 for about one year now & I'm still learning about all the functions. LOL
Comment by Linda Schendel on November 11, 2011 at 4:02pm Tony, my basic premise is whatever it takes to get the photo, whether it's auto, a scene setting or spinning the dials, just so long as its a good shot I don't really care how I got there. I agree with the suggestion about the auto setting, you can always look at the settings and see where a good starting point is from the shot that you got and just improve on that.
Comment by Tony Hill on November 11, 2011 at 2:23pm Linda Thanks - will try out the various modes - always thought like it was cheating using set modes lol - was trying to use Aperture priority as main one - still better to crawl before you walk lol - nothing wrong with the camera just the person behind it lol
As per mnsidds re flash i was on TTL but i am sure the ISO was the problem - Thanks for the tips guys especially re the firmware update
Comment by Linda Schendel on November 11, 2011 at 11:02am Tony, have you tried any of the "scene" settings on your camera? You might try the "party" scene, I think that's what it's called. I have found them really convenient and helpful when I'm just not sure exactly what I need.
Comment by Linda Schendel on November 11, 2011 at 11:00am I wish I had an answer for the sensor cleaning question, however, I have a good camera shop close by, so I let them do the tricky stuff. I hope that you find an answer -- have your tried the Nikon support page on their website?
Comment by Linda Schendel on November 11, 2011 at 7:56am Tiberman, I got a notice from Adorama that Nikon has released a firmware update. Check it out. Also, Tony this is something that you should probably check out and update on your D7000 -- will be going to the local shop and having my D7000 updated on the way home tonight.
