Hi all!

I have a Nikon D50 and have been looking at wide angle lenses so that I can take some "proper" (more dramatic) landscapes.  The ones on my shortlist are:

Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX
Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM
Tamron SP AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Asp. (IF)
Tokina 12-24mm f/4 II AT-X124 AF PRO DX

I'm favouring the 11-16 Tokina but any advice would be much appreciated!

Read a few more reviews and there didn't seem much difference between the 5000 and 5100 - not for the extra money anyway.  The concensus of opinion (whether right or wrong) seems to rate the 3100 as a beginner's camera and I really wanted to step up from the d50.  Another thing that bothered me with that particular d90 was the inconsistency of image quality - I took all the pics in the same light outside, some were great but others overexposed and particularly on my cat the edges had purple/blue fringeing.  It could just have been that particular model but it just didn't feel right.   Let's see what tomorrow brings ...

Thought I'd just give an update on this thread.  I did end up with the 5000 and Tamron 10-24 WA lens and am loving them both!  Just been on holiday to the Gower Peninsula (south Wales) and got some fantastic sunsets using both my 55-200 zoom and the WA lens - no lens flare or sunspots at all, unlike with the D50.  In fact, I'm so enthusiastic about the WA my friend has decided she "needs" one as well.  Seriously thinking about putting the D50 on ebay - then I can put the dosh towards a new macro!

Beautiful -- you did well in your choices.
Thanks Linda!  Imagine how good they'd be with a D7000 .......... I can but dream!

I've had the Tokina 11-16 2.8 since it first came out. In fact it was one of the first sold.  I was on a waiting list for what seemed like forever. It was well worth the wait!! Outragious lens I've been very happy with the results from this lens, use it on my Nikon D300. The 2.8 was a huge factor for me and still is.

Yeah I remember going through this same fight to figure out which Wide Angle I wanted.  I ended up getting the Sigma 10-20mm and I love the lens for sure.  I think when I was looking at them I was looking for a lens that would auto focus on the D60 but shortly after I bought this lens I ended up buying the D7000 to go along with the D60.  Of course the D60 is about to be upgraded to a D80.

i walked in the store to buy that lens, but walked out with the nikon 10-24.  the focus locked in so much faster.  i knew i would use the lens a lot so i went ahead and dropped the extra $300.
