I just received my tamron macro lens and I can't get it to work. I got it onto the camera alright but when I turn the camera on to take a picture it just flashes the Fstop at me and I'm not sure what to do. I have a D90 and the lens is a Tamron AF 35-90mm f/4-5.6.

So if someone could help me I would really appreciate it!
Hate to spend the money on the lens and not even be able to use it :(

thanks a bunch

If you had looked in your manual you would see it means "No lens attached".
It is quite a common fault, to try and get you going make sure the lens is locked in the auto position.
Try cleaning the contacts on the lens with a very soft, lint free cloth. You could also clean the contacts on the lens mount on the camera. It should get it working
ok I'll try that. I wasn't able to find a place on the lens itself that lets me choose manual or auto so I'll try it.

Thanks again
I dont see anywhere that has an option to make it manual or auto focus
There must be something to change it from Auto to Manual, all lenses have them unless they are a manual lens. Your lens was discontinued in 1994 so there is not a lot of information about it. I still think it is bad contact. Can you try the lens on another camera?
yea I think im gonna try it on my 35mm..I didnt pay too much for it so hopefully it will work somewhere :(
I had it set on the lowest aperature and it still didn't focus or anything.
Hi Sara,
Just joined the forum, and read your thread. I also have the same problem with my Tamron lens, I have just contacted the supplier to return it. In my case the problem has got steadily worse since purchase in December.
Have you solved your problem? or is it still ongoing?
No I had a professional look at it and he said its not a nikon lens..wouldn't work on his camera either. So I'm pretty much stuck with it now haha
that's not a macro lens anyway. a true macro lens would have a fixed f-stop, not a 35-90. the tamron macro is a 90mm f2.8 lens. it has no zoom. it's like a prime lens, no range.
you need to check the compatibility of lenses when you buy them. not all lenses fit on any camera. that's why they make canon lenses and nikkor/nikon lenses and sigma, etc.
Hi Gina,
Sorry, Neglected to say that mine was the 90mm Prime Lens. It seems to be a problem with the actual fitting of the lens to the camera body. Will keep the site posted as to my outcome.

Cheers,

John
i know what you're talking about. mine is okay, but when i first got it, i felt like i was loosening a bolt when I tried to mount the lens/turn it. it has a VERY tight connection. hope yours is okay for a long time! :O)
