Hi, I've used today my NIKON D40, with flash DS-400 and had amazing results. I was wandering why pay a fortune for a higher model if the results to me are satisfying?
It's an easy to use camera with fantastic results. I still feel it's the photographer who makes the photo, not the camera.
How do you feel about that? Let me know, and also let me know why you have bought a certain model?
In addition I insert a picture I have made today with the D40 - so you get an idea of the possibilities of this fine camera.
Nice photo! what lens are you using? Higher end models just have more control over the picture situation. From what I'm told it's more about the glass you use than the actual camera. Very nice photo, I really like it! I use the D300 now and my son want's to get the D40 and use my glass (when I allow LOL). I started with D80, D90 and now the 300 series. I'm sold on anything Nikon.
I used the NIKON which was with the kit, 18-55 mm - That's pretty much it. I don't now if bad lenses are still made... I also use the Sigma 70-300 mm with Macro. I would like to buy me a 18-200 mm lens, that seems to me pretty handy.
your right, its the photographer who makes a great picture. my friend who never listens to me, i have the d90, and he complains that the camera is crappy cause he can never get it to take nice pictures. little does he know that i never ever have it on automatic. 90% of the time its on apature control. i love the d90 cause of the easy that i can manually set what i want, i have messed with the d40 and i thought after having the d90 it's to constricting on controls and how easy it is to you. but lovely pictures. looks like you pointed the flash directly at the bird though, but i like the detail in the feathers
i have the sigma 70-300 apo macro as well. nice telephoto lens. and the magnification ratio is 1:2 , not a true macro but for $200 its an awesome lens for the price.
You're right! It's not about the camera, it's the photographer and might be the lens as well (for some reason) And that's a very nice photo. Very sharp details. Have you tried thinking about lining up several photographers with all the same photography equipment? Each one of them can make very different results even telling them to take a picture of the same subject. It's just like Iron Chef America. One secret recipe, different dishes. :)
i agree...im only new to photography and have started out with my D40...i love it!! even though i only have the standard lense that came with it i think i have taken some really nice pics..as i say,im only a beginner, but i love the quality of the picture and how easy it is to use :)
The D40 is a fantastic camera, and you are right about the person behind the lens being the most important part of the success. I am still using a D50, and have been since they first came out. I have used a D40, and I actually like the out-of-camera jpegs very much. The camera is just a little small for me. I have also used a D90, and that would be my choice if I could buy new. Very much like the D40 in how the jpegs come right from the camera, but a little easier to use for my hands. The pictures you are getting with your D40 are fantastic. Keep it up!
I'm asking myself if it's useful to buy a Sigma 18-200 mm lens? It seems very easy to me to don't have to change the lens any more when the heat is on. I have read that the quality is rather poor of that kind of lens, anybody some experience with that? Thanks - Jan
Another picture taken with the D40 - my 70-300 mm lens on Macro.
I'm undecided between the d40 and d40x.
I like the faster flash sync of the 40 but the
40x has 4 more megapix. I keep telling myself that
more MP doesn't make a better camera but hesitate to
get a 6 mp camera in the 12mp and up world.
Decisions, decisions.
