Hi all,

I am interested in night photography. This photo was taken of a party lawn lit during night time. Would appreciate critical comments/ways to improve so that I can enhance my night photography skills....

I assume you used a tripod. That is probably the number one rule. If you want a critique on how well you recorded the event, you succeeded. However, it's quite far away and in this case becomes more uninteresting. Try close-ups of people in the party while using flash and dragging your shutter down to 1-1.5 stops below your flash exposure. If you are going to shoot without a flash you will have to shoot RAW in either AWB (Auto White Balance) or do a custom white balance in the event; this gives you the option in post production to change RAW color profile to your liking.

There are a lot of ways to shoot night photography and it depends what results you're after. The best thing is just shoot a lot of scenarios and learn as much as you can. Experience will teach you when you're in a crunch and need to make adjustments on the fly.
Hello Ed,

Actually, I did not use a tripod for shooting this image. I recently purchased an entry level DSLR (Nikon D3000) and was just shooting some initial photos. I found this image pretty interesting and wanted some expert feedbacks on my work. I am particularly interested in nature and night photography and am working on that. I have noted your other recommendations as well...
Thank You very much...
Although things are not so clear, but I liked the environment
I think if it had good clarity and focus, it would be very good. But it doesn't.
