Hey all,

Been pretty busy lately but here's one I took today in a session.

Backlit by a 72" octabox, settings were 1/125sec, f20, 100iso.

I edited it in PS7. It's been a while since I've done this, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to do a softfocus effect?

Also, I was kinda thinking of maybe doing a square crop on this, thoughts?

Very nice.

Mike :)
I think it is a little stretched to the top. But except that it is very beautiful and sweet photo.
Cute one
Are you wanting in camera soft focus?
Great shot! I think a square crop would work nicely on this. I haven't done any backlit portraits. If you don't mind, what was the positioning of the octobox? I see the background is blown out so i'm wondering if your light is facing the background with a little spillage onto the girl?
A little lens flare around head. Nice rim lighting along eyelids and cheeks. Because of the strength of the back light it does soften edge detail a bit. Overall I really like it.
Hey all thanks for all the comments!

Nathan, I was looking for a way to soften the focus in PS but I didn't know if just using the Soften option in the Filters menu was enough.

Vito, I was originally shooting against a white background with a Rembrant set up (using the octa box as the main light and 2 kickers on either side.) For this shot, I didn't move the white background, turned off the kickers and placed the little girl right in front of the octabox using the translucent front of the octabox as the background.

Ed, how do I avoid the softening of the edge detail when shooting backlit subjects? What can I do in camera to make something like this better?
