This group is for negative feedback on photos or things that could be improved only. People tend to only comment on photos when they have something nice to say, but this group is designed to go against that trend so you as a photographer can find out what is wrong with your technique. So please don't be afraid to contribute a negative comment in this group on someone else's work.

If you would like to get constructive criticism on one of your photos here is what you do.

1. Click the Link that says "Start a Discussion"
2. Upload your photo to the "Post" section on the "Start a Discussion" screen. To do this click on the little photo icon next to the text formatting icons.
3. After your photo is uploaded you might add some text under it if you wish describing what you are concerned about or what you would like to hear opinions about.
4. Please do not use the attach section because then users will have to click on a link to your photo to see it. By using the "Post" section, users can study your photo more effectively.

I originally posted this one and then deleted and posted the darker one, thinking that the lighter one would be too light on here. I'm happy actually that you pointed it out. What do ya think now?

Arne, It's an interesting photograph. The dark tones in the hair are a bit heavy (dark) for my taste. I'd like to see some separation with the hair on the far side and I think the vignetting at the bottom is a bit heavy and harsh but interesting concept.

Ed - And mesmerized you should be. My only suggestion on it, and this is strictly personal preference, is that I think her beautiful skin is a little dark. I have a feeling that bringing up the mid-tones would really make this sing! One other thing is that if it were mine, I'd work the eyes a bit to get a nice catch light, not a harsh one, but a nice, soft, delicate one and lighten the iris just a bit. Beautiful portrait though. Make a 30x40 for your studio and watch peoples reaction to it.

To me it's a Composition Perfect!
The chin RESTING in a v-shaped nest of folded arms, which themselves span the frame give it a calm and stability.
A bit tilted head, natural smile and the eyes reflecting light fill the photo with life.
The strand of hair to the front and the strand to the back of the face make it feel three-dimensional.
Softness of the skin and precision in revealing details of the eyes done beautifully.

If anything at all, (if picture was mine) I would have tried to bring a bit more light in.

OK guys here ya go. Maybe I'm just mesmerized by the beauty of my granddaughter. But, if there's criticism to be had, let 'er fly.

Actually that isn't necessarily true. We have White Sands and the Sonora Desert
as well as the Mojave desert and Death Valley, one of the hottest places on earth, which are nearly as hot as yours and with very intense light. I would suggest that you consider waiting until the sun is low in the sky or just below the horizon, which is what we have to do if there isn't any cloud over. You will find that the light very late in the day or very early, is complementary to your work.

Your comments adds value to my work, I just got this new Cokin Filters, this is my first time using them mid of the day, as you know we in the UAE have strong Sun light, and to take photographers during the day you need to use a strong Filter.

It's a fascinating and striking building but the orange filter is ghastly. You'd be much better off without it. It's such a strong modifier that it makes it difficult to analyze the rest of the photograph.
