Check out the link below, 10-deadly-post-processing-sins, and take note of number one.
An interesting read for people like me that believe one should learn how to use their camera first.

That was a very interesting article and number one was very surprising to me. Thanks for sharing it.
Your welcome.
It is always good to have a re-think of your practices, but, as Natalie said at the end, the whole post is a satire!
Of course it is better to take a good photo in the first place, and of course photoediting can be horribly overdone, but that doesn't mean that we can't use our artistic and creative vision to take that excellent photo and turn it into art.
I would even go so far as to say that there is a place for selective colouring! I have several examples of it with which I am very happy.
Each to his own, eh?

Funny article.  Not particularly useful. Typical of digital photography school dot com.

Well, I agree that you have to learn how to use your camera, before anything else. However, since most of my pictures are for myself and family, I do what I like. That includes trying to work with textures..LOL!

Very Nice Photo.
Thanks.

Like the proverbial bad penny, I always seem to pop up when there is a need for balance.  The article may well be satire with its intent, however I believe it will actually do more harm than raise chuckles.  How many people who were reading that and thought, "hmm... I think I have about a hundred of those kind of post-processed photographs..."?  Come on, hands up!

The very nature of Photoshop is to encourage trial and error, first we mimic, maybe a tutorial or two, then start to branch out on our own and voila... one of the 10 no no's appear.  This is because it is a learning process!  What is this tool for, where are the tools, how would this look on my photograph?.  Think of a baby/toddler, is that not the same process of learning, think of a teenager dealing with parents that don't know anything... does all this sound familiar?

If you are just starting out on your journey with Photoshop, please ignore this satirical rant. Keep experimenting, try everything and anything.  With time, you will develop your own view of what is good and what isn't.

After you do, bring up those first versions that you worked on and have a good laugh, you will see how far you have progressed and how far you may still need to go.  The day we stop learning something new, is the day we might as well lay down and die.

NB

very right oppinion Nick. it was my way to work with photoshop and i like it

I find the article informative and helpful especially to amateurs like me.  But art in general is self expression.  Sometimes I play with Photoshop and come up with psychedelic or out of the box images.  It's good to experiment at times depending on your purpose with your photos.  I consider this as a learning experience.  But as the saying goes, when you have mastered the rules then that's the time that you can break them.

Very nice! Thank you Terry.
