Hi, I'm new to photoshop, just installed cs3 . . . can u give me some direction as to where to start with this attached pic? I want to let the bride stand in the groom's hand with the corresponding shadows, while cutting away the chair she's standing on . . . ?
Layers Layers Layers first dup. the layer never work on the original. I first used the clone tool (stamp tool in the tool palet) to remove the chair on the grass and gravel. Second I used the laso tool to select the log and duplacated it and use the move tool to cover the area were the log goes. every time i moved the log i duplacated it (controll j on pc ) till i got the area covered then merg the log layers down and blend with the clone tool. I also copied the one leg to make the other one. Same thing use the selection tool and duplacate it before you deselect it use the controll t tool (free transform) and adjust till your liking. Its pretty easy once you figure your main tools. Any questions feel free to send me an email. Take care hope i didnt confuse you too much. Lew
That's cool!! Thanks for the steps, its fairly easy to follow, I'll try them out tonight, I can't wait!! i'll post my version when I'm done with it, thanks so much.
Hey thanx Lew, I followed your instructions . . . spent the whole weekend getting to know the software first, and also followed some tutorials for beginners, then finally tried it, this is the result, I decided to leave her foot in the air, as if she is balancing . . . once again thanx!! Here is my version . . .

Thats a nice job, looks really good except that the shadow of the bride is in the wrong place.

Also when doing these types of shots it is always good to use a tripod and take one image with the subject in the environment and one without...make photoshopping so much easier.
ok use the magic extrctor on the bride and background first make a layer for that and fine tune it,take your time..your depth of field is all wrong.so maybe make an entirely new background(you can even put yorselves on the moon if you want...lol.Go on the web and download all the plugins you can there are lots of freebies(tons) and start listing all the sites on your favorites list.Try out all the trial s you can.I recommend filter forge,Tiffen,Dreamsuite,Flaming Pear(excellent) and list all the free tutorial sites and watch one a day.. Careful it is highly addictive and fun as hell.Using layers and shortcut keys are the ticket.Make a laminated shotcut key card and tape it to your desk and print off every article you read and make an organized manual for yourself...I'm new to this too but I am kicking ass and taking names...Kevin Thompson
Thanks, Kevin, I just didn't have plenty of time to go on-line in the last two weeks, but I've already started printing out tuts and stuff. I'll try out the trials as you mentioned.
The laminated shortcut key card suggestion is brilliant, thnx.
