ahhh making something look better is always how it looks to the artist doing it :) In my eye this photo has some nice elements, but a couple of distractions too.
The first thing I did was clone out the hand bar in the front and what looks like a shoe in the back > then I cropped a little closer to put more emphasis on the subjects > brightened > boosted the contrast > desaturated > sharpened > added a slight brown tint> put a shadow under the dog's nose so the white didn't blend with her face >added a dark edge vignette > softened the edges
So, it may not look any better, but it was fun to do

thank you Victoria, your opinion is appreciated and welcomed!
Nice Job Cyn, I like it a lot. I tried something a little different.
Basically I brought up the brightness, then removed the chrome bar. I cropped the show out of the shot altogether and added a Cutout layer above the original photo then reduced the opacity by about 50%. Unhappy with the texture of the carpet I added some noise to try to cover it up. I don't know that I have improved the original either but I had fun too.
I like the colors too , just a simple light issue that could have been prevented by using a flash. All I did was adjust the light and give it a little color boost , it's tough to work on such a small photo but these are my results.
a little magic :o)
