I was wondering about the fact of mixing pictures with the photoshop and started this discussion to see that how the other people see it and what do they think about it.
Robert "leaving the lights on" is referring to old darkroom days when all post editing was done in the dark because of the chemicals.....not at your computer in PS :>
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. In this case beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You might think a picture looks better that has been adjusted in photoshop, but somebody else might think it looks better unedited. It all depends on a person's style and what they prefer.
Personally, every photo that I take and share with people goes through photoshop first. I think photoshop is an art form in itself. Being a good photographer is an artistic skill, digitally manipulating a photograph is an artistic skill that takes a long time to learn. It all depends on the person. Hope this helps.

Robert, are you asking if there is anything wrong with using Photoshop? I know there are some purists who believe you should just print what comes out of the camera, but all the greats of the past, most notably, Ansel Adams spent more time in the darkroom than he did sitting under El Capitan...Whether you are dodging and burning with stick with masking tape on it or using a mouse and a computer...this is art...There is no wrong and right. Does your art look the way you want it to? If the answer is yes, then however you got there does not matter. Keep shooting and tweeking the images. :-)
Well I am just an amatuer and have just acquired CS3 photo shop and I like and use Picasa 3 software I find many of the photo's I take are so full of color that I need very little change to them and and Picasa 3 software is ample to crop and to straighten and maybe use darken of lighten abit. I like my photo's to look as natural as possible so what I see is represented faithfully in the photo I display.
However there are times when the sky is white and dull and the photo I take is lovely compostion wise but not color wise and it needs enhancing and so I then find that software of any sought becomes an added bonus and is often needed. I think beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and the creator and if ten people got given the same photo and were told to do what they liked with it they would all be different and I think this is wonderful. I also think we are privelaged to live in this age of photographic technology where by we can if we want to manipulate our own photos and make them our own piece of individual art work.
To me it is an extension of my imaginative creativity should I wish to make my photo different to what I saw and my own signature in this field which makes my photo's different from others and this applies to every one. You make it your own by using these extensions called software I consider myself lucky that I was born in an age where all of these things are at my finger tips should I desire to use them
So if you want to use do so it is still your work just like a painting done in oils of a pumkin and I decide to add some purple to it simly because I like it and it looks good to me and it is then my own special work of art I have used an extension of color to change something real into something unreal called modern art bingo there you have it and this is my opinion on it all
"I love shooting in B/W and I only shoot B/W in RAW. If I shoot color to convert I do not shoot in RAW. I like the finished product much better when all is said and done.
I think of "drama" and "emotions" when I think of B/W and I…"
