Hi guys and gals, I am new to this group and would like your comments on the nose rule. I love protraiture but I find taking them a bit harder than other photgraphic fields. I recently took this shot and was told that I broke the nsoe rule. Can someone please explain the rule?  I am not interested in  other technical flaws of the shot which are many but simply about the rule. Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Joe

I don't know about other folks, but my only nose rule is avoid shooting it from below, as that tends to emphasize the nostrils. I often have people angle their nose to the lens axis, but that's less about the nose and more about the appearance of the eyes. Having people look more out of the side of their eyes than straight ahead tends to make the eyes look bigger. That doesn't really apply to your photo.

I'm no expert. I'd like to know what "the nose rule" is too! I did find a reference to it while "stumbling" on StumbleUpon:

Rule 16. Watch the Nose and Cheek Line-The face should not be turned so far away from the camera that the nose will break or nearly break the far cheek line. This will make the nose look large. (http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1KHPGr/www.lumitouch.com/benstudiotut...)
