White Balance color filters

Can anybody give me specifics about the color filters on the white balance?(A700) I've played with the temperatures and understand the color shift from for example 3200K and 5900K. There are also 9G and 9M filters, I'm guessing magenta and green from what I'm seeing in my pictures. What are the details and how best can I use these?
