Street Photography, in my view, is more about having a camera with you and taking advantage of opportunities that arise.

The last wedding that I photographed was impromptu, while on a family vacation in Captiva, Fla. Walking back to the rental house, from dinner, my wife noticed a bride walking to the beach. It was just before sunset. I ran into the house, picked up the Rd-1 and a 35mm (50mm equiv in film) lens, put on my hat and ran to the beach. The wedding was just starting and I photographed the entire event. I am posting 3 photographs with this message.

At the end, the minister asked if she could borrow my camera so that I could be in the pictures and I admitted that I was not part of the party. The bride’s mother asked who I was, I said that I was a photographer, from up in New York and that I could not resist taking their photographs, I was invited to take more and then I had the photographs up on my pbase galleries for a month. The bride sent me an email, thanking me and I sent her a DVD with all of the photographs and a few 8x10 prints. They were delighted and I had fun. What could be better?

My approach to street is to create a situation where I am part of the scene, it seems to work. I don’t like doing secret photographs, they are not fun.

Happy shooting,
Bob

I would like to be part of the scene when I do my next Reality Shutter series. I did the first just to really try out the features of a newly purchased point-and-shoot that had DSLR-like features. I am hoping to learn a lot from you. Very nice story of the wedding pictures! I really like it and find it inspiring.
