The Photography Network - PictureSocial

Hi all,
I am new to this group, was never a PC member, nor do I know what it is. But if you are willing to have outsiders join in on discussions then I would like to give it a try. I am looking to better my photography skills and learn from others. Hopefully in some way I can also be an asset as well.

I will begin with sharing a photo that I recently took in my neighbors yard. It is of an injured Hawk and he was shot in the chest, therefore could not fly. I was able to get very close to him and it was a great experience. He is now at a bird rescue shelter doing well, but they don't know if they will be able to release him back into the wild.
Thanks for letting me share.

This is a very nice shot. The exposure is good. There isn't anything in the photo that is distracting from the main subject, and the composition is good and clear. If I was going to offer any suggestion at all it would only be to enhance the vibrancy. If you colors were more vibrant then it would just pop off of the page. You know what I mean? If you need an example let me know and I will enhance it for you.
That is exactly what I was looking for.Thank you for your comments. I would love for you to enhance it for me.
I only use Picasa and or Picnik.com.
Photoshop is too advanced for me and way too time consuming at this point and time.
I was lucky that the background was a grey tone of the house in which he was next to.
Overall I was very happy with the picture, for my experience level.
So please show me what can be done...thanks!!
Nice to meet you Marcia! I am so impressed with your Hawk! I have not learned photoshop either, yet, but I have played with piknik... I will learn this all now too, I hope! :) You could title this, "Hawkeye"! :)
LoL...Hawkeye would be appropriate, because when I was 2 feet away from him clicking away to my hearts content he was watching me like a "Hawk". Amazing how his eyes just followed me around.
It was a great experience to be that close to him. One I will never forget. Thank you for your kind comments.

I am a PC member- Hi- found you all here today... :) How do you make this more vibrant or enhance it. Marcia's shot is great in subject, framing, color, etc... GREAT JOB Marcia! :) But this is a question that I need help on too...I think I have some good past photos but now it seems that everyone is enhancing and that I will be never be satisfied with natural color... Thanks, if you can help... :) Deb V
This is a great photo Marcia! Your focus is pin sharp and the details in his feathers look superb! Well done.
Welcome to our little group. The PC graduates refers to another website called The PhotoChallenge, we are members of(or ex members). We are all new to this site and are all still feeling our way around but eventally we hope to have a few 'challenges' amongst the group, discussions, share tips and ideas etc etc. Bare with us!!!
Cheers, Katrina
Thank you for filling me in. I am fairly new to this group. About 6 weeks in. I have been in love with photography for quite some time now, but didn't know where to share it until I came here. This site has got me more excited about photography and I believe has improved my skills too. (yipee!!)
I have friends at work who want me to do photo shoots for their kids, so I will try that and get a little experience with that.
I look forward to learning more and more.
Thanks.
Marcia
Hi and welcome Marcia, I too am very new to photography, and I have learnt quite a lot from this site, and not forgetting the members of this group. Who have all been very supportive. I followed them from the PC site. I am afraid I am not much good at the critique side of things, but will definately let you know what I think of your photos. Starting with this one..... I think you have captured him very well, the detail is great and when Michael has enhanced the colour for you, you will really see the difference. Michael is very helpful. Good luck, and hope to see more photos of yours on here.... especially of the children you have the opportunity to photograph.
