Young artists.

Three young ladies show off their artwork during a recent art show at the weekly bazaar in Kabul. They are currently in high school and all are highly talented. But, what will become of them? In a country where drug lords and illiterate, corrupt men run for positions in high government, women have few if any rights. Will the spark of creativity, skill and passion be extinguished when they come of age? It is a sad realization that the world will lose these and other fine artists and all that they could be come in the name of religious law.

I would love to say that I had these lovely young gals pose for me, "Act natural, pretend I am not even here" and all of that as I shot this. That I framed this shot and used the proper exposures I wanted. The truth is it is quite taboo to speak to a woman you are not married to in Islamic countries. Even more so to photograph them. I rested my camera on my arm, set what exposure I thought MIGHT work and let my auto focus do the work and shot this on the sly while walking past them. I got lucky. Only a few minor corrections in post production were needed.
