Considering I have been in photography all my life Run one of the North of Englands largest Studios and made enough money in this industry to retire at 45, I consider myself to be professional. And as a professional Can tell you rules are there to be broken 1/3 2/3 is a good starting point But true creativity was never achieved by following rules ......Luckily others share my view as this was a featured shot !
This Image was not about the Sky or land or there relationship but about the tree and how it was made to look small by the vastness of its surroundings Both the huge space above and the collection of small grains below Both completely different textures and dynamics but equal in their dominance of the tree
Therefore in my mind it was important that the sky and land be of about equal size to create the tension between them and the tree. The field was given a bit more space as that in fact is usually less dominant than the sky and wanted to give the viewer the understanding that many small grains together makes an equal challenge I still think that although the tree is much smaller in this composition its central position still makes the image about the tree .

i love all this pic is it the field or the clouds what is funny is when i was young i was told to use a 1/3 2/3 for the photo composition and you use half for the field and half for the clouds
Ps people who are professional will understand me thanks

I'll be sticking to my D300. Would love some more glass however. :)
