This gentleman was having a jolly good time reading his papers and enjoying his lunch ... until I came around and started pointing my big fat camera at him. Fact is that I would hate it too :-)

Comment by Thomas Jeppesen on January 4, 2012 at 9:52pm Well, like I said, you really have to be in the mood to do it :-) Most of the time you have to wait for eyecontact anyway, and right this moment is usually when the best pictures are taken. After that they will try not to look at you and perhaps even turn the other way, but you can still wait for the second glance that they WILL make at some point, to see if you're still around. This second glance make a completely different and often more interesting shot, as it's a little more secretive and inquiring and perhaps even a bit frustrated. A lot of my portraits are from second glances :-)
Comment by Fiat Frost on January 4, 2012 at 9:20pm Thank you for sharing. That's why I'm normally focusing on studio shoot. (Or capturing members of family) I'm afraid of interrupting people on street and did a bad shot when they noticed I was there...
Comment by Thomas Jeppesen on January 4, 2012 at 9:02pm Yeah, I guess it is invading someones privacy when you point a big zoom lens at them for a longer period of time ... on some days, this doesn't bother me, as it's the only way to get a good photo. On other days, I just can't bring myself to the point of antagonizing people, so I stay at a distance ... After they discover me, I usually thank them in vietnamese, and they go from annoyed to being curious and smiling :-)
