Hello Pat, I used a plugin for Photoshop called Topaz Adjust, You can download a trial version http://www.topazlabs.com/adjust/
Give it a try, its the best bang for the buck IMO :)
Your sister lives in North Bend, Wa - Is she also a photographer ?
