Lighting need some fill in light to open up the dark areas without detail. It lacks action, perhaps the photo could have been in the midst of striking the hot metal or even some sparks flying with a more unusual angle to increase interest.

The blacks and shadows are pretty dense here Roy, I'd like to see a touch more detail and more of the hands, even if they are gloved - perhaps a higher angle, to incorporate the hands at the top of the frame and the anvil towards the bottom.  There are various solutions to the lighting - try the reverse angle or a side angle, or try a reflector, fill-in flash is possible but it tends to overkill and cause secondary shadows unless you are very careful. ;-)
