Twin Peaks cornice and Pipeline Basin

We had gone up to a saddle at 11,000 ft that is between Sugarloaf mountain and Mineral basin on the east and Twin Peaks on the west. Standing in this position I could see the Great Salt Lake about 30 miles distant. This is one of the places where the amazing extreme skiing videos are shot.

Toyo 45A, 65mm Grandagon, #21 red-orange filter, Kodak 400 T-Max film.

Love the black and white photography which is especially appealing on this mountain scene with the amazing clouds and dusting of snow still on the mountains. It doesn't get much better than this!

Excellent work Nathan, well managed exposure in pretty difficult conditions. I think you would have had your hands full if the sun had come through beneath the clouds, this is pretty contrasty as it is.

Thank you very much. I did this photograph and then waited, hoping that the sunlight would scoot in under the clouds to that I could have the contrast of raw sunlight on the snow. By the time it happened the sky had gone dead, dull and uninteresting.

Love this shot! Very atmospheric, the sky really makes it.
