Profile Information

About Me and My Photography Experience:
Have been doing photography for about 8 yrs. on a serious level. Was motivated by this adorable dog which I owned at the time and wanted to photograph. Once I realized how much fun digital photography could be, it branched out into all sorts of subject matter, although am partial to animals and nature, and also acquainted myself with the joys of PS editing. Eventually, about 4 yrs. ago, began designing greeting cards from my photos which I sold at a local boutique with some success.
My Photography Equipment:
Started with a small Kodak digital of 2 mp and have gone through numerous point and shoots until 2008 when I decided it was time to finally go the DSLR route. Bought the Olympus E510 in Jan of 2008 and loved using it until March of 2011 when I decided to upgrade to the E-30. It had a better DR and beautiful, rich colors, and I managed to grab some decent shots out of it, but found the sharpness to be lacking, even in comparison to my E-510. For some people this is not an issue, but for me, most of my shots need to be razor sharp. Since I have a solid line up of Zuiko lenses, didn't want to lose my investment so bit the bullet and bought the E-5. Am very happy with it and haven't looked back. Now the only thing left to upgrade is my skills:-)

Congrats, you have a winning combination there!  That is a good price and it should be eligible for the extended warranty which I always suggest, it covers if the lens fails, not if the user damages it so keep that in mind.

Check out wrotniaks site for some setup suggestions, he has them for the E-3, I have the E-30 so I used that as a starting point.  http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e30-sett.html

Hope that helps and Olympus tech support is also a great resource!

Andrea,

Thanks for your comments.  You will love the E-5!  It is a little heavier than the others, but the image quality is outstanding and the camera is very customizable, more so than any other E-system including your copywrite info that can be written in the EXIF data.

The 35-100mm f/2 SHG lens is my personal favorite and I own every lens you do and a few others.  It tends to never come off the camera, I usually shoot in Aperture mode at f/2.0 as that is why I bought the lens for ZERO depth of field and the bokek that this lens creates is different from all the others including the 50mm f/2.0.

I just had right shoulder surgery so it took some work to carry that camera and lens combination, I finally weighed myself with and without camera and it was 6 pounds.  I use it for all portraiture and some nature, depending on what the nature is I am shooting then I may use the 50mm or the 50-200mm lenses.  I did purchase mine refurbished and that saved a lot of money, check with Adorama or B & H photo and see if they have one in stock, it is a hard lens to find!  You can also call the Olympus store and ask if they have a refurbished in stock, should run $1600/1700 and up approximately and that is a good savings.  My E-30 and 50mm were also refurbished BY OLYMPUS so you have a 90 day warranty and I did purchase the extended warranty on them, small price to pay!

Andrea,

Since I failed to get you on the 50-200 SWD, I will try again: I just ordered another lens for our upcomming Amazon River cruise. It is a Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Super Wide Angle Zoom (OLY1058D)$349.99 from Dodd Camera, a 100 year old family business. I hardly ever use the 50-200 because of the weight. And as wide as the 12-60 is I expect to use the 9mm a lot.

Wecome to Picture Social. Your friend looks like my first dog, only as a negitive, His name was Blacky. I have had a long sucession of dogs, and I do believe that time spent loving and playing with dogs isn't counted against are alloted time. I saved the best for last. Dizzy is a black Border Collie and by far the smartest dog that I have ever known. You can see picture in my animals album.

You have become a master of the macro with that 50mm. Your dragon fly is perfect (if you like bugs)
