"Congratulations on your choice of the E5! If I did not already have my E3, I would have gone for the E5. My favorite lens is the f/2.8, 12-60 mm. It is a fine "walk around" lens. That and my 70-300 mm seem to cover most of my needs. Have…"

"If you have not invested too heavily on the 4/3rd lenses then I would suggest you go with the E-M5. It is about $600 less than the E5 and has a better sensor and the low light performance is very good.. I have an E-5 because that was the best one I…"

About Me and My Photography Experience:
My Dad was a photographer, so I caught the bug early on. For years I took photos as a hobby and a way of capturing memories. About 5 years ago I started to get serious. I'm still just an amateur, but I've got some great shots of weddings and I've done some senior portraits. I love shooting my dogs, flowers, bugs and kids.
My Photography Equipment:
Currently using an Olympus Evolt E510.

Hi Angie. I noticed on the Oly user's group that you were concerned about your photography being taken seriously. I would say you should have no worries about that. You have an eye for your subjects. Whatever model camera you get, it will be all about how you see the world that counts. It is the "seeing beyond seeing," as one book I read puts it, that really makes the difference. You do what you do because you have a passion for taking photographs. It is all about the passion, the rest comes with experience. I am almost 71 years old and have been shooting photos for over 50 years and I still learn new things all the time.
Best regards, Dan

We get a lot of rain here in Ferndale, so I know what you mean. We had a pretty sunny December and early January (our rainfall is only about 50% of normal) but it has been storming lately.

Hi Angie, Welcome to PictureSocial and the Olympus users group. You live in a state with some of my favorite shooting areas. My wife and I love to spend time in Gold Beach while head for Pistol River Beach to take advantage of the amazing sea stacks and wide beach. As Papa Rotzzi says some higher end Olympus cameras can be found for good prices on the internet if you shop around. The good news is that your 12-60mm lens will be great on your higher end Oly. I bought one for my E3 and it is wonderful in all types of light.

Best regards, Dan

Well, the good news is, you can pick up higher end Oly's pretty cheap these days. I am also pretty sure that the newer PEN series cameras will function well with the Zuiko 4/3 lenses in the near future. I doubt that your lens investment is a waste.

Angie, I am both sorry and relieved to say "It is probably not the lens"..  (though.. if you are having better luck with the 18-180, I hate that lens!)

The E-510 is old and there is in no way optimized to make use of Olympus' SWD lenses like the 12-60 and the 50-200. I think your problems are more likely caused by the older body than this lens.

Just took this test shot  E-5, 12-60. ISO 800, Small desk lamp in front of my computer, hand held.. re-sized so as not to be too massive, but no other processing...

Welcome to the site! I did not realize that you were new to the site or that you are an Olympus shooter when I commented. I am an Olympus shooter with a lot of experience and contacts, so if you need any help with your gear, just holler!
