About Me and My Photography Experience:: I'm a 41 year old software developer living in Blacksburg, Virginia. I grew up in Virginia and attended Virginia Tech, where I met my lovely wife, Kelly. We're coming up on our 18th anniversary in November.

After college, Kelly and I moved down to Austin, Texas, where we lived for 17 years. During that time, we had four kids, Matt (16), Aubrey (14), Carlisle (11), and Delaney (8). In May of 2008, I got laid off by Hewlett-Packard, and we decided to move back to the East Coast to get closer to family. I interviewed with several companies and accepted a job offer with Evergrid, a company at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. We moved back to Blacksburg (after 19 years away) in August of 2008.

I got interested in photography in December, 2006, when I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT. My work closed down the week between Christmas and New Years, so I decided to take my kids on a nine day road trip out to the Grand Canyon, stopping in New Mexico and Arizona on the way. We had a blast, and since then I've spent way more money on photographic equipment than my meager skills would warrant. But it's fun, and that's all that matters.

Everyone is eager to give advice and criticism when you ask, as well as praise on your great work. There are many groups that you can join like the Canon and Nikon users, and Flower and Plant groups. Take a look around and see where you can fit in. Join as many groups as you like. Learn from observing others works. Participate in areas you like and contribute to discussions. Add a blog, comment on others work on their pages and photos. A sister site is picturecorrect.com where you can see camera reviews and many subjects about photography.
