Hi All, thanks for your comments. I found an interesting group on flickr "Extreme Street Photography". Check it out, especially the definitions .http://www.flickr.com/groups/extremestreet/
There are over 20K great street photographs.
Bob
The colors are amazing, adding to the excitement and activity of the captures! I love the man with the umbrella the action and movement in the shot are wonderful.
Wonderful quote Bob, thank you for sharing. Interesting it is, that in some photo forums, I've seen photographers apologize or state that they were hesitant to post street photos which show the imperfections or frailties that are most truly…
Wow - this encompasses so much of the direction I am seeking with this hobby of mine. Beautiful words. Perfect "filter," as you so fittingly described them!
My primary photography interest is in photographing people. I enjoy street photography, including protests, as well as volunteering to photograph non-profit events. I have done about a 10 weddings and find that to not be as interesting as photographing events, protests, etc.
I usually print only to hang in my office and after awhile I give the prints away. I believe that there are over one hundred of my photographs in cubicles and peoples houses. This feels good.
My Photography Equipment:
Mainly digital using a Pentax *-1st-d and an Epson RD-1. I like the Epson on the street. I also have a Mamiya C330 and two Holga, one a pin hole.
Thanks for the comment on the Oregon (solarized). I wasn't sure that they were uploaded till I checked as this site closed for maintenance last night before I got the OK. Was fun playing around a bit . . . have to get back to homework (yes, it's still Spring Break) Happy Spring! (It is still snowing outside . . .)
Hi Bob! Thanks for the critique. I took this shot with a hand-held, manual-focus 300 zoom, so have lots more picture to work with. It is really hard to get those little flitty birds that like to hide out in trees! It is impossible to take bird pics with an automatic focus, I've found. They keep flitting and leaves/branches confuse the autofocus. I'll redo and let you know so we can compare. Thanks for your time and input!
Thanks for your critique. I do know the "rule of thirds" and try to apply when doing landscapes. Some (most) of these have been cropped . . . Do you think that it would be better to offset ALL of centered subjects, or some or most? What about the Kentucky Warbler?
Hi Bob!
Just wanted to let you know that I finally uploaded some pics. Also, now I am not faceless. I added about 30 but I do not know if they have all shown up. Let me know what is your favorite and which ones need something. Thanks!
Hello Bob!
Just wanted to pop in to say Hi before I eat and get back to Midterms. Got two finals done on Monday. This coming week is Spring Break, and I intend on getting some pics uploaded. Will love to hear your constructive criticism. I didn't want you to think I've been ignoring you!
Thanks for your detailed comment. Will re-read later and reply better. This is short because I have the flu today and will be going back to bed now. Was up trying to get some homework done and emailed to a class that I am missing tonight. Hope tomorrow is better!
Hello Bob,
This is the first social I've joined. When I am less heavy into homework, I will upload some pics. The K10D is my first digital, and I've had it for less than a year. There are some shots that I am very happy with, a lot of quicky family "snap"shots, and lots that have been or will be deleted! Ha! That is one of the beauties of digital. For street shots, do you have to get people's permission, or do you use a long lens so as not to make it obvious? I pretty much concentrate on landscape, birds and other critters, flowers and things natural. I live in a very rural area. What made you choose Pentax? One main reason I chose the K10D was the weather resistance they built in. This summer will be shooting in Chicago downtown and when we (my daughter(s) and their little ones - oldest was 3 this weekend) to to the zoo. I will not be with the little ones when I am downtown - but I was wondering about the etiquette of such shoots.
It seems to me we have met somewhere in our past life. Come on down to JAX and take some street pics in the city with an old gent. Plenty of characters to snap away to one's delight. Or, just veg out.
