Macro Flower

"I love the lighting - very vivid. I usually like more dof, as Jim Novak mentioned, but for me the lighting in this creates a contrast that almost gives a visual trick of dof, if that makes sense."

" This is what I had done after you made the suggestion. I hadn't done any editing to it other than to crop it, and resize it though. I really like what you did with PS though. Thanks Rachel!!"

"Glad you like it. To add the pic just click on the black photo icon at the top of the window and choose your file. Just so you know all I did was play with the brightness and contrast. A bit of curve adjustment and then I put a warming filter on it."

"Oh yeahhhhh I see what you mean. I like your version much better..lol. Thanks for the sizing tip too. I did resize after I cropped, but I probably should have made it even smaller than I did. Also, I ended up having to attach the cropped photo. How…"

"I took the liberty of PS to show you what I ment. Hope you like it. BTW I would size your photos to have the longest side to be 800 pixels (I save as to keep my original photo the bigger size) as it makes it easier to load up. "

"Thanks for the idea Rachel. I have cropped it to show only the sunlit, and patterned portion of the tree. I actually think it works a little better than the other way. I still am not in love with it though."

"I like the idea and but I think Rob is right it is not quite working. I actually like the top part of the tree with the pattens on it and would crop it down so you just see that with the markings if you get what I mean."

"Yeah I see what you mean. I guess I was trying to get the sun beaming through the hole as the part that would be of interest, and it just didn't workout. Thanks for the input."

Rob Bixby replied to Brent Peters's discussion Triangle in the group Photo Criticism
"Unfortunately, shooting through a window or hole, like this, usually doesn't work unless there's something of interest in the hole. I also think there is too much of the tree in the frame, particularly the underexposed 2/3 of the image. I…"

Triangle

I thought that this might be an interesting shot so I snapped the picture, and I guess I like the way that it came out, but I was wondering if there would be something that I could have done to make it better. Any suggestions?See More

DOF is determined by your lens opening or f/stop. Smaller openings (higher f/stop numbers) give more depth. To get a higher f/stop you can increase the light on the subject, slow the lens speed, increase the ISO or a combination of all three. Here's a great site to learn the mechanics
