Hi Brittany,  I guess a snapshot could be defined as a picture taken in the moment without much thought of composition.  Typically I see a lot of these in child pictures where they are just running around and someone is snapping pictures (thus snapshots).  These might be good for memory keepsakes but not great photos overall.  This could apply to other subjects as well.  Becoming a good editor of your own work is part of the process (what to show or not).  I think you do better with B&W than color at this point and its important to look at other work and study what makes good pictures, so it becomes instinctive.

I also think processing plays a part too.  On you color photos I see you apply a more stark, high contrast look or a bleached tone look which I think should only be rarely used.  You should experiment just not over use it.  There is a lot of loss of detail in the shadows of your scenic pictures as well (heavy black areas).  All this is to make you better, I hope you take it that way.

Your posted photo in B & W is very good but what makes it stand out is the perspective. Shooting from beneath them is a great idea.Your photos on your page are very good. Some were a little soft (slightly out of focus but my favorite thing to do is take photos of flowers and believe me I have had many soft images. Keep shooting Brittany.
