I agree with you that a shallower depth of field would have improved the photograph, also, it may be my monitor but the photo seems to have a blue cast to it. I think warmer skin tones would have improved the picture.

I like the concept. However I have to wonder if HDR is the best way to process these. They have almost a plastic feeling to them and I think it's probably the result of too much HDR.

Nice photo but the spider seems a little blown out on the right side, it could also use a tad more contrast and/or saturation for the spider.
