Elmer replied to Dennis Lauer's discussion 'when to include a focal point' in the group Flower and Plant Photographers
The sharp focus and the DOF of the yellow flower allows it to stand alone. The bee became the focal point but I think the flowers could have stood alone if the DOF was controlled better and a sharper focus. Although, I can see pollen grains in the…

That is a great attitude.  I am with you.  I always tell people the difference between a good pic and a bad pic is 100 pic.  Thanks for the funny reply.  Keep taking and sharing.  Please, Please give comments just like you…

Thanks for the thought, I was trying to be conceptual, that is more about mood and emotion than any thing specific. If the message didn't get through for you, then clearly I've failed, no big deal I have taken thousands more crappy…

Hi Dennis,  Your statement is funny about the critique.  I think when you don't get a lot of critique it is due to the picture is OK.  It is not great and it is not bad but it is a picture.  These two picture above,…

techniques and tips for all things photographic

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 7:16pm 1 Comment

Hey, here is a thought, how about a blog where people can share different thoughts and techniques and examples are only for illustrative purposes.

For my own part, I shoot raw on awb for everything and I use my camera for my light meter (spot mode of course) and even though that is pretty accurate, I always decide I like it either darker or lighter in camera raw. Now this may go against the grain for a lot of people, but it works for me.

Thank you so much, I don't get around like you (man you get around) so I am forcing myself to concentrate on local landscapes (I am actually working on a project on just that). Love the color from other cultures that you bring, some may not ever hang over a couch, but certainly add insight for those of us who have never left the country.
Back to my self, check out my website, I have tutorials, tips, several links to my online photo gallery and a bunch of stuff that is hidden (old tv shows etc),
my pride and joy, however, is my fireworks gallery just click one of the fw pics in my site and you're there.
And how strange is it, that somebody that lives in Maui has several relation that live in small towns in the midwest that I have barely heard of (just kidding). Any way, check the site out and keep traveling and taking pictures.
Sincerely:
Dennis Lauer

Thanks! And thanks also for the nice photos! I have family connections to Omaha -- many uncles, aunties and cousins live there as well as south in Auburn and Peru and west near Lincoln. I experienced a large blizzard in Minnesota a few days before May Day so I can accept if not understand your weather. Nice images in your slide show!
