Thanks for making a comment on my "space" at PS. I can give you a couple of tips that I use when I do my BW work. First of all, do not be afraid of under exposing when taking the photo. I often under expose and then I use Dodge and Burn in Photoshop to work with the details. I also mask (lasso tool in PSCS) areas in the photo that I think is important and then I use a new layer and work with contrast or levels. You should also try working with selective color in PSCS to give your bw photo the final touch.
