Cool pic of the city, however I think I would have liked it a bit more if it were a tad darker. I'd still like to see the sunset so you could see the outline of the all the fantastic architecture but I think it would have been great to wait…
p.s. However, I don't really love the other building off to the side. I think it provides for some distraction. I also think it would be cool to focus more on the bottom half of the building with a tad more contrast and blur and and darken the…
Hey, I think it's a cook pic. I took a picture similar of the twin towers in N.Y.C. about 5 months before 9-11. Of course it is a cherished picture now. Of course I didn't have my Nikon back then so I only have a single photo of it but I…
Hey girl,
Nice to know that u like my photos.
Photos in an album that u have seen, was taken in France..
I saw your photos too, nice pic. of children. In my opinion to make photos of them sometimes is difficult coz they are too emotional, energetic…
Look for a PPA affiliated photographers group. When you go to their meetings you will probably be able to meet some of these photographers. I believe that Don Blair' son is now the photographer at the studio. I know Dave Newman is still active.…
yes, I know of Don Blair and Dave Newman...both still have studios very close to me. I know what you mean about light. And I see how the wagon is a huge competition for the girls. Thanks you for your advice. I will take it and run with it....MUCH…
Hey GWC,
In order to make the BG fall out of focus in camera just seat the cherubs a distance out from the wagon. It may be difficult to maintain the size of the wagon and still get it to fall out of focus enough. The wagon is competing for…
PS. Nothing ever, should be allowed to compete with the children for attention. There faces should always be the focal point of the photograph. When someone says; "that's a great background" they mean it as a compliment. What it means…
I have semi-professionally been taking pictures for about 3 years but have loved photography all my life. I really got into taking good quality pictures after my children were born. It was important to me to have GREAT pictures of them. I was not satisfied with what I found at places like Kiddie Kandids, Target, JC Penney etc. I thought I could do better. My love is CANDID photography. I love to capture children, images, families in the moments where they are being their true authentic selves. To me, there is nothing better than capturing a child laughing or doing something they love, like dressing up, playing, bouncing or just being with their family. I also love to edit photos and make them look different and sometime kinda funky! Taking pictures just makes me happy; I rarely go anywhere without my camera...you never know what you'll see. Also, I am a MAC user so I primarily edit with MAC, however my husband purchased me Photogshop Elements but I am having a hard time figuring out how to use it; it is not very user friendly in my opinion. If there is anyone out there that thinks this works a lot better than the new MAC editing system please let me know. I'd love to learn some tips. I love the black & white photos with color but don't really know how to do them. I'd love any helpful tips and useful criticism from some of you really talented photographers out there! I'm happy to be here!

I believe that Don Blair' son is now the photographer at the studio. I know Dave Newman is still active. They are very kind people and will be glad to help. Please be aware that when I look at photographs and evaluate them it's never personal to the photographer. I do appreciate that you are wanting to learn, which is the purpose of all my critiques.

It may be difficult to maintain the size of the wagon and still get it to fall out of focus enough. The wagon is competing for attention with the children. Learn to see things the way your camera does;it will take some practice.
If your aim is to do professional caliber portraits I would suggest that you find an organization of professional photographers in your area then go and enter the print competitions. It's like going to master classes. Many of the finest portrait photographers in the world live in Utah! Don Blair, if he's still living, Dave Newman etc. These are old school shooters but teach the basics of good portrait work such as posing, lighting etc. So much of the photography being done now isn't good work because the modern generation of cameras allows people to get good exposure without learning basic skills of the craft.
Learn to see light; what it is, what it does.
Yes, many of the photographs are from southern Utah! I always put an exclamation point behind the name because Utah! is so amazing. I haven't been there to work in several years simply because of the press of time...............
PS. Nothing ever, should be allowed to compete with the children for attention. There faces should always be the focal point of the photograph. When someone says; "that's a great background" they mean it as a compliment. What it means is that we didn't pose the children correctly, light the children correctly or something else went wrong.
if u have any other questions when u get a chance to give it a try, i dont mind answering them if i can. I know all about trying to find the time... i have 3 wee ones myself. lol
Hi Emily... i just saw ur post about being confused about layering in PS. Hopefully my analogy can help. Think of it as if you were to scrap book a layout. A scrapbook layout has many element. A photo, a matting, ribbon, embellishments, etc. What if you placed your picture on top of your mat but did not tape it down.Your husband come to take a look at what your doing and now when he is done he places the mat on top of the photo. Now u cannot see ur photo because the matt LAYER is covering it. In PS u would simply drag ur matt under ur photo to expose it. When you like what u see and are happy in ur layout u would tape it down...this is called flattening in photoshop. Hope this helps a little.
