There are several techniques to try to portray movement in a photograph. Most will have some sort of blurring in the photo itself. Some use equipment, others use positioning. One way is to use a zoom lens and change the zoom while exposing the…

Photography in December

Posted on December 1, 2007 at 12:40am 1 Comment

Taking photographs around the holiday season can be a challenging task. Most christmas events seem to take place at night with only little lights so typical photographers just use a lot of flash photography around this time of year. Occasionally I will see a more professional photographer at parties who is either carrying a tripod around with him or he has some type of flash that bounces off the ceiling. The photos they produce have been much better than mine in years past so I am going to make… Continue

Auto Settings Vs. Manual Settings

Posted on November 18, 2007 at 9:03pm 2 Comments

I have been using my digital camera for years now and I have grown used to just using Auto settings instead of Manually entering the shutter speed, aperture, white balance, iso speed, etc.. I seem to be getting good photo results but I am wondering if I should be using more advanced settings for certain situations.

When I upload my photos to my computer they seem good to me but many other photographers' photos seem to be much more artistic and intricate then mine with dynamic lighting…

Thanks for your comment about my Burj photo on Bens Blog Yes I chartered a helicopter out of Dubai Airport The trip to Dubai was a treat for my son who has just graduated as a Building surveyor so what better place to go. I took the photos of the Burj hanging out of the door at just over half a mile high which seems less of a good idea now I was shooting on two canon bodies 1 with a 16-35 lens one 28-70 and still had a job to get the building in frame the shot you posted was taken at a 45 degree bank over the top !! I posted the shots on a skyscraper web site and they went around the world via the net very fast .On gizmodo this one had 460000 veiwings I have recently sold the shots to the press and this week had double page centerfold in 3 main UK daily papers as well as papers and 29 magazines around the world So that certainly has covered the cost of that trip . I have been lucky this year in as the last three trips Egypt/New zealand/ Morroco and now UAE have all turned a profit My next trip on Friday is to Malawi to photograph Elephant and cool looking people who hopefully dont want to eat me so lets hope the luck holds. Thank you for the kind comment on my Miami Skyline photo. I was at a friend's house when I did that and I used her dad's computer. I guess it's the software that usually came with it when you purchase a desktop. I can't recall the exact name but it was HP something...sorry I couldn't remember exactly the name of it. But I'll get back to you once I find out.

Thank you Eugene :) I appreciate you taking time to look at my photos, and especially to comment. I like to know what I am doing right and what could be improved upon since I am very amatuer at this. (I should have stuck with my passion as a teen, might not of been too young of a mother....and my shots would probably be professional level by now....lol)
