Janna Slaback said… Haha, Gary, that is so funny! Well ... maybe funny isn't the right word ... I know that it's so awkward at first to try to figure out what to do, but you just do it and it works somehow. I just did my very first wedding on Sunday (New Years Day) and now I'm editing the 2000 photos I took. Oy vay! But you know what? I feel like it worked out okay .... there is only one shot that I wish I would have gotten that I didn't (the picture of their hands with their wedding rings) but I learned SO MUCH! I'll be adding just a few to my page shortly and will let you know so that you can check them out. I just looked at your pictures of Scott & Kelly's wedding ... wow! Phenomenal!!

Janna Slaback said… Haha, you're right Gary, photographing babies is a bit of a challenge. Gracie was so sweet. She was a bit grumpy in the beginning (I think I uploaded the one of her crying) but then everything settled down.
Thanks so much for the advice about plain colored blankets. I'm making notes about each shoot and about what I did right and what could be improved upon. This is one thing that I will definitely make a note of. I live close enough to this friend that I can go do additional shoots and I think I'll try again with her naked bottom and we'll set her on white blankets. Her home is SUPER dark and there were limited places to take pictures, but all in all, it turned out well, I think. The blanket and hat, by the way, were gifts to the baby which is why Mom wanted to use them, however .... we could have alternated and mixed it up by using other blankets as well and as I said, I appreciate your feedback. It means the world to me.
She did make one of the photos her facebook profile page today which was huge to me!!
So there was this one case where the camera completely wigged out and took super strange pictures ... completely white and completely black and there was one where the top was in focus but the bottom half of the picture was black. It was strange. I adjusted my shutter speed thinking maybe something happened there, but no luck, so I broke a major rule ... I put it in "automatic" and took one shot and then we went outside to do the rest of the shoot and I put it back on AV mode and it worked just fine. It was quite alarming.
Thanks so much! Again, I am so grateful for constructive feedback ... telling me what I did right AND what can be improved upon.
This is the most fun I've had in a very long time!!
Warmly, Janna
