Your Initial Settings

You can take the perfectly exposed image, with the best equipment, but if you fail in processing, especially unsharp mask, all your efforts are wasted. In landscape, I have seen the starting settings…Continue

Cost vs Quality Based on Test Results

Started this discussion. Last reply by CameraClicker Sep 7, 2011. 3 Replies

After comparing various lenses with my camera body, using the DxO mark overall  results, I am totally confused. My $360 18-105 mm Nikkor scored higher (13) on the test than lenses costing 4 and 5…Continue

D5100 vs D5000

Started this discussion. Last reply by Ion Paciu Apr 6, 2011. 2 Replies

The specs from the D5100 have an actual setting for an ISO value of 100, while the D5000 obtains this in an extended ISO range. Is there any difference in the image quality of these two settings, or…Continue

Loss of image quality on conversion

Started this discussion. Last reply by Erna Ream Apr 8, 2011. 5 Replies

I do most of my editing using ACR 6.2 inside of Elements 8. When I open the raw file inside of Elements, it appears to be a lot duller, and maybe not as sharp. This is the case for both 8 and 16 bit…Continue

Are you a member of the administration, or an abuser? Your opionion is not that of the majority.

People still don't care, think it is their personal website. Of three people this morning, one had about 9 images, another about a dozen and the third OVER 20. Where is administration????????? Recently quit one site because of stupidity of…

This is why I will not post any photos. Until the administation has the guts to impose strict limits, it is a waste of time. I have better things to do than go through 20 pages of crap to find a few good images.

Your quote "The truth about HDR is that you can make plain Jane images look pretty good without really having to be a skilled photographer", takes away what HDR is all about. Digital cameras have a limited range, far less than the human…

Greg maklae replied to M wc's discussion 'Nikon d500 how is it and why?'
I have been using the D5000 for a few years, and there are very few dislikes. I was between the D5000 and D90 and finally settled on the D5000. Likes: live view with swiveling LED screen, same detector as D90, image quality, size, selection of…

Greg maklae replied to Nishant Mishra's discussion 'Why buy a 50mm prime if I have got an 18-55 mm standard kit lens?'
Those who say this speak from only their area of photography, so I will speak from mine. The main advantage is a fixed lens is it is going to be faster, f/1.something as opposed to f/3.5 or slower. For me, I rarely shoot below f/11 in landscape…

Maybe not, but you can legislate the site. Belonged to one site that allowed 1 image per catagory every three days. Needless to say, there were not any pages of junk to wade through.

I just created a website using Elements 8, www.photoshop.com/users/photos-by-greg  Currently I have about 46 images posted, and keeping the average file size to 225k, I have room for hundreds more. You get a site name and 2 GB of storage.…

I find the Adobe site to be lacking in useful information, ie apply it until it look good, no specifics. I tend to do a Google or U-Tube search on a specific topic, such as HDR, selective control (where you adjust on part of the image) or…

Instead of the D3100, I would look into a factory rebuilt higher model from an established dealer, such an Adorama. It will come with a warranty, any firmware upgrades, and will save you a couple hundred dollars over new. I got a rebuilt D5000 with…

I like your photographs Greg. You've some good stuff there that makes me jealous.

Nice subjects and good composition on most and good colors.

Glad to see you are just using Elements 8. That's all most photographers need, not CS5, like they say they have.

Keep up the good work and we are neighbors and am sure we'll meet up some time.

I think sending your opinion about the finalists for the photo contest is better than posting it on the contest voting page. Have you taken into consideration the feelings of three ppl. It doesnt look like it. If you dont agree w/ the choices simply dont vote but saying what you did and in the manner you did is very insensitive and arrogant and I am reporting you.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your feedback and comments. I haven't been in the Dacks for some 36 years and have very fond memories. Used to spent alot of time around Lake Pleasant and Sacondaga.

Greg, I see your favorite subjects are waterfalls. Well, so are mine. I would travel the world shooting them if only I had the time and money! Love your pics and I invite you to review mine, also on this site. You may enjoy my waterfalls from Montana! Hey, I grew up in Schenectady so I appreciate the Adirondack shots.
