"I always edit my stills - it isn't "live" and that is one of the reasons I love still photography (and motion picture editing).
I do find that I avoid editing pictures that are not "great shots" to begin with,…"

I started taking stills when I was in college studying to go into the motion picture industry (the thinking: you have to learn to compose a single frame before you're shooting 24 frames a second.) I've been in the entertainment industry now for 25 years as a studio development executive and as a producer. I shoot and edit stills because I love doing it.
My Photography Equipment:
I have my old Pentax MX with a variety of lenses (it's dented and worn, but it's still amazing), an Olympus OM1, a new Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-105, a Canon t2i, and a Sony SR-12 for hd home video. I have developed and made my own 35mm film prints and started shooting digital about 10 years ago. I use Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 for editing stills and Final Cut Pro 7 at home for videos and iMovie to layout sequences.
